I get recurrent attacks of GERD with a bitter taste in mouth. Is this due to stress?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 55-year-old female. I have GERD and had a bad attack in the first week of June. Shortness of breath and feels like vomiting. I treated that with tums. I can only eat oatmeal and hard-boiled eggs. After two weeks, it gets a little better and eats a little food besides oatmeal and egg. Then two days ago, after eating empanada, I felt heaviness again on my stomach. During the June attack, there are days I am having a bitter taste, maybe because I am not eating? What should I do now? I do not like to go through the process again. Can this be cured? Does stress add to this condition? I can still work and do household chores. Please help me with what to take?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You have to eat a small diet five times a days. Drink plenty of water. No heavy bedtime meal. I do not like to go through the process again. Do it when you feel you can do.

And yes, it will be cured. Take your diet regularly and also take an antacid. Please reduce your stress. Take tablet Amitriptyline 10 mg one tablet at night for one month.

Kindly try to do the following investigation:

1. Stool RME.

2. H.Pylori.

3. Serum Na, K, and Calcium.

You can also take Ornidazole 500 mg one tablet BD for five days, tablet Lansoprazole 30 mg one tablet BD for 40 days, capsule Bifilac one capsule TDS for five days, tablet Ondesterone 4 mg one tablet TDS for five days.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Shall I choose any of those medicines?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The most important medicine is tablet Lansoprazole 30 mg one tablet BD for 40 days. It will reduce GERD and relieve your symptoms.
