Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I drink two pints milk a day with a protein shake but since then I have got acid reflux and cannot swallow without food getting stuck in my throat. Endoscopy was done last year which was normal. Is it intolerance to milk or lactose that is causing this? Also, is it safe to take Ranitidine twice a day with Lanzoprazole?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

To answer your first question regarding lactose intolerance, lactose intolerance will cause predominantly bloating and loose stools. Both Ranitidine and Lansoprazole have a different mechanism of action, taking one class of drugs for reducing your dyspeptic symptoms are recommended. Any history of fingers turning white on cold, joint pain, or fever?

I would suggest you undergo rapid urease breath test for Helicobacter Pylori, motility studies. If you think protein shake is the culprit for your dyspeptic symptoms, stop for a while. Avoid other gastric irritants like coffee, tea, alcohol, citrus, smoking, other spicy diets. I would suggest you take neutralizing foods like banana, tender coconut, yogurt, and curd.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
