Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 18 years old, with a height of 5 feet 4 inches and a weight of 92 pounds. I have been experiencing symptoms of ADHD for the past few years, but I have not been diagnosed yet. I think I should seek professional help and verify whether it is ADHD or not. I am unable to focus and do simple tasks. I face problems staying organized. I have poor time management skills and I cannot sit or stand still without excess movements. I had unstable relationships in the past, and my self-esteem is getting lower. I performed badly at school and even in college at present. It has been causing me anxiety and depression. I cannot move on with my life like this. I become demotivated when thinking about how my mind cannot remember and process simple things. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I am here to help you get the best medical advice.

You may have ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder- Children with this condition may have trouble paying attention, controlling impulsive behaviors, or can be overly active). There are non-pharmacological ways to manage it. I suggest you try the below-mentioned guidelines to deal with it as they will help you.

  1. You should exercise daily for 30 to 45 minutes, such as going for a walk.

  2. You should practice meditation for 20 minutes daily. Just sit in one place in a comfortable position and try to concentrate on your normal breathing. Do not stop or force yourself to stop your thoughts; Just let them be.

  3. You should eat healthy, home-cooked foods and avoid junk foods.

  4. You must drink enough water.

  5. You should spend quality time with friends and family members daily.

  6. You should spend time doing creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills, language, or musical instruments.

  7. You should aim for seven to eight hours of sleep daily.

  8. You must avoid tobacco usage, alcohol consumption, or any substance abuse.

If you still have symptoms that persist after following the above-mentioned advice for four to six weeks, then you need to start medications for a short duration.

I hope this helps.

Do revert in case of any further queries.

Thank you.

Investigations to be done

I suggest you do a CBC (complete blood count), thyroid profile, vitamin B12, and vitamin D3 test.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
