Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am concerned about my 28-year-old sister, who often struggles with staying organized, and focused, and seems to have a hard time following various tasks. Additionally, she can be quite impulsive and gets easily distracted. I am worried about her behavior and how it would affect her life. Can you please suggest the best solutions or treatments for her, and how can I support her through this?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Firstly, thank you for taking help from a psychiatrist. I can understand your situation and your concern about your sister. You have not mentioned enough details that can help me to diagnose her illness. Her behavior can be due to chronic stress, impulsivity, or ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), but I will suggest some tips that can help her deal with her problem. Your sister should try to follow the below guidelines to help her deal with her problem.

  1. She should exercise daily for 30 to 45 minutes like at least going for a walk.
  2. She should do meditation for 20 minutes daily. She can just sit in one place in a comfortable position and try to concentrate on her normal breathing. Let her not stop or force herself to stop her thoughts. Just let it be.
  3. She should eat healthy home-cooked foods and avoid junk foods.
  4. She must drink enough water.
  5. She should spend quality time with friends and family members daily.
  6. She should spend time doing creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills or language or musical instruments.
  7. She should sleep for seven to eight hours daily.
  8. She must avoid tobacco usage, alcohol consumption, or any type of substance abuse.

Give her a reason to live her life and she must not just spend it. Tell your sister to be bold and confident. If she still has symptoms that persist after following the advice for four to six weeks, then she must consult a nearby psychiatrist for a detailed evaluation.

I hope you got the answers to all the queries that you had.

Thank you.

Investigations to be done

I suggest your sister do CBC (complete blood count), RBS (random blood sugar), thyroid profile tests, vitamin B12, and vitamin D3 tests.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
