Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was wondering if it is possible to detox from alcohol at home. I do not want to return to the hospital and have not had any alcohol in a few days. Unfortunately, I have relapsed ten times in the past year and a half. I started drinking again about six months ago, I have been in the hospital a few times for withdrawal, and I was there for more than a few days each time. I still take tablets of Hydroxyzine, vitamin B1, Folic acid, and over-the-counter Magnesium. Is this what I need to detox at home?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Along with folic acid and vitamin B, two medications should be taken: the first is the tablet Acamprosate which reduces craving, and the second is the tablet Disulfiram which gives you the unpleasant taste of alcohol. Discuss with your doctor before taking any medication. I strongly encourage you to go ahead and cut down on drinking alcohol.

Thank you.
