I am 20 years old. What might be causing my lip allergy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 20 years old. For the past year, I have been experiencing issues with my lips. Whenever I eat certain foods or use cosmetics on my lips, they swell and become dry, red, and itchy. I took Ayurvedic medicines for nearly six months, and my condition improved significantly. However, recently my face has started to become very dry and itchy when I eat outside food or use cosmetics.

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Based on your symptoms, it seems you might have an allergy to a chemical or ingredient in either the cosmetics you use or the outside food you consume. To assist you further, please share the results of your IgE (immunoglobulin E) and allergy tests with us. We need to know which allergens were tested. Additionally, was the allergy test conducted as a skin prick test or a blood test? If you could attach the reports to your next message, it would be very helpful.

Please answer a few questions so that I can guide you better:

  1. Have you reviewed the ingredients in the cosmetics you apply to your face or lips?
  2. Do these ingredients match any of the allergens identified in your tests?
  3. Do you experience breathlessness or coughing related to the allergy?
  4. Have you been tested for lactose intolerance, milk allergy, gluten sensitivity, or wheat insensitivity?

Providing these details will help us make a more accurate diagnosis and recommend the appropriate treatment

Thank you.
