Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am 22 years old and have thinning hair and balding in the crown area. I am taking Finasteride, but I am not seeing much improvement. I also go through stages of severe dry scalp and dandruff. What are the following best things to try? Have any non-prescription remedies, such as a biotin change in diet or increased water consumption, been successful with previous clients?
Kindly help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
I would like to explain about hair fall.
75 to 100 hairs falling every day is very normal. So, hair loss should be considered only if the amount of hair fall is more than this. Straightening and other procedures also cause weakness of the root. Other conditions like fever, typhoid, malaria, thyroid issues, etc., can also cause hair fall, but these are less common.
In the male, most of the cases are of androgenic alopecia. It is a genetically determined disorder characterized by the gradual conversion of terminal hairs into indeterminate hairs and vellus hairs. With your condition, I suggest 5% Minoxidil lotion with Finasteride 1 mL local application twice daily (with this for the initial two months, you may feel an increase in hair fall but do not discontinue it).
Minoxidil is safe and must be used continuously for the resumed benefit. You may continue it for as long as you desire medical treatment for your hair fall. Also, it is best to take vitamin supplements like tablet Xtraglo (biotin, copper, iron, selenium, zinc, L-cysteine, L-lysine, and methionine) once daily for six months.
Kindly consult with your doctor before taking the medicines.
Get a review after one month.
I hope you find it helpful.
Kind regards.
