Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My sister-in-law was admitted to the cardiac center for cardiac angioplasty. However, during the angiogram, along with the discovery of six blockages in the heart, one blockage was found in both the left and right kidneys. Following the cardiologist's advice, we opted for a renal stent as the first step. After the completion of the procedure, she experienced tachycardia and chest pain radiating to the jaw. The serum creatinine level initially measured 1.8 mg/dl, but after renal angioplasty, it increased to 3.8 mg/dl and later decreased to 2.8 mg/dl. The patient has now been shifted from the ICU to the general ward. Your advice is required.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query, and I can understand your concern.

Now, creatinine tends to rise after an angioplasty due to the dye used as a contrast to visualize the vessels. However, it does not increase rapidly because of that; it may take 48 to 72 hours for creatinine to rise after the procedure. Another potential reason for the rise could be the medications she is taking, dehydration, kidney-toxic drugs, or a sudden decrease in blood pressure. Could you provide information about her urine output, blood pressure, diabetes status, and the medications she is currently taking?

Please revert with the answers.

Wishing you excellent health. Thank you.
