Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
While running, I twisted my ankle and heard a crack sound. It is swollen. Is it sprained or fractured?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern and would be happy to help. I have seen the pictures you have shared (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). It is difficult to assess if it is a sprain or a fracture by looking at the picture. However, if you can bear weight on it, it is less likely to be a fracture. I suggest you get an X-ray of the ankle done. Meanwhile, you can start using the recommended medicines and apply an icepack. Consult a specialist doctor, talk to him or her, and start the medication with their consent. I hope this helps.
Thank you.

Hello doctor,
Thank you for your reply. I am unable to stand on my left leg and can put only a little weight on it.
Hello,

I suggest you get an X-ray to confirm the diagnosis and guide the treatment.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
