Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I fell over on my foot a couple of weeks ago, my foot never had any swelling or bruising but became instantly sore. I have avoided having an X-ray as I am currently pregnant however, it has got to a point where I cannot put weight on my foot. I have got pain down the side of my foot, in my ankle and also my heel, and my foot is constantly throbbing. Please can you help?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

If you are in your second or third trimester you can get an MRI of the foot rather than an X-ray and in fact, some will still do the X-ray since it is the foot. According to the Ottawa ankle rule if you are unable to bear weight this is actually an indication for imaging. I would recommend taking Acetaminophen if you have no liver issues since it is safe in pregnancy and consult an orthopedic surgeon.

I hope this helps.
