Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had a sprain in my ankle six months ago and did not undergo any surgery then, but I still have not recovered. So I wanted to know if there are any improvements based on the new MRI or if surgery is recommended or not at this point? Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Kindly elaborate more about your symptoms and the exact point of pain in your ankle. Then, you can mark the point in your ankle and send a picture. Also, do you experience maximum pain while walking on uneven surfaces?

Kindly revert.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor.

I do not have pain while walking and have only mild pain while walking on uneven surfaces. Can you please explain my condition based on the MRI reports? Do you recommend surgery according to the reports or not? I need to understand the report. Kindly help.

Answered by Dr. Anuj Gupta

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

According to the report (attachment removed to protect patient's identity), there is a tear in the ligaments responsible for stabilization of the ankle joint. The tear seen in the MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is irrelevant unless it is correlated with clinical findings. Some patients have no symptoms but a complete tear of ligaments. So the decision for surgery is based on clinical findings and their correlation with MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). However, according to the report, there is a tear of ligaments on the outer aspect of the ankle. The tear seems healing when comparing your old and new MRI reports. But again, as I told you, reports are unreliable unless clinically correlated.

Thank you.
