Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had a panic disorder, and numerous heart tests were done, which were normal. However, sometimes in between bowel movements or while lying down, I used to feel that my heartbeat was skipping in between. This tends to frighten me and cause my heart to speed up a bit afterward. They last a few seconds when I can feel a normal heart rate with a skipped one. Also, I feel some pressure in my chest. What are these episodes, and are they harmful? Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. All the heart tests are normal, as you mentioned earlier. So the symptoms you experience are due to anxiety rather than the cardiac problem, and there is nothing to worry about. However, I would suggest you consult a doctor in person when you have these symptoms. Meanwhile, I would suggest the following. Walk daily for at least 30 minutes. Practice breathing exercises for 5 minutes daily. Indulge in some outdoor sports activities. Spend quality time with friends and family. Listen to soft music. Practice progressive muscular relaxation. I hope this helps. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
