Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

4 years old had an magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for hearing loss. The report impression: Left mastoid and middle ear effusion. But my question is they listed left frontal region arachnoid cyst with adjacent mass effect. They are getting another MRI ordered and an appointment with a neurologist. I have looked at the symptoms, she has none, except dizziness when going in circles, she doesn't like it. Unknown from fluid in ear or cyst. Can you please give me some information of what this is? I cannot sleep.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I read carefully your question and would explain that the dizziness is not related to the arachnoid cyst. You should know that arachnoid cysts are usually asymptomatic and they are present since birth. Anyway, sometimes if they grow, they may lead to seizures or motor or sensory deficits. For this reason, it is important consulting with a neurosurgeon. Follow up with brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) every year may be needed.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

6.1 c anterior-posterior, 2.4-transverse. Mass effect on the adjacent parenchyma. No midline shift. No hemorrhage. Central cranial normal.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. These dimensions indicate a big cyst, which seems to cause compression of the normal brain tissues. Coming to this point, it is important consulting with a neurologist for a careful physical exam in order to detect possible neurological signs, caused by this compression. Another option would be to follow up with brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) after six months in order to investigate for any possible increase in dimensions.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
