What causes pain in the left arm and numbness in the jaw?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Three days ago, I had left arm discomfort. It was like needle pricks and a little pressure from the arm to the thumb. I thought it was muscular. I was just about to take a flight and felt really nervous if it was a heart attack. My hands were clammy. Yesterday and today, I have not had any pain in my left arm; I just had discomfort one time yesterday. Today, my right jaw started to feel strange. No pain, but it feels a little numb. I am very nervous about that. I have been spinning every day since three years ago, and my cholesterol has been between 180 and sometimes 260. Is there any problem? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I guess you do not have any chest pain or heaviness during exertion or rest. The first possibility is you are experiencing cervical pain, which causes nerve compression, leading to pain, tingling, numbness, and burning in the arm. Do you have any history of neck or neck pain, stiffness, or arm pain? Spinning also supports the cervical cause. The strange feeling in the upper or lower jaw can also occur with anxiety or cervical cause. If it is in the upper jaw, then it is unlikely to be related to the heart, and the lower jaw may or may not be due to the heart.

However, to rule out the possibility of cardiac pain reliably, you should get one ECG (electrocardiogram) done from a local doctor and attach a report. Also, similar manifestations sometimes may occur with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). So overall, it is likely a cervical cause, but considering the risk factors, it is better to get yourself evaluated with ECG and, if normal, then stress test as you have risk factors. You will need an X-ray of the cervical spine anteroposterior and a lateral view of the cervical. You can take a tablet with a combination of Methylcobalamin 750 mcg and Pregabalin 75 mg for the pain.

I hope this helps. You can get back to me if you have any questions. Regards.
