Is surgery the only option for treating my ASD?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I recently had my annual health checkup, during which I was diagnosed with a heart defect (ASD) and was advised to undergo surgical closure. I would appreciate your opinion and guidance on this matter.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

According to your test reports (attachment removed to protect patient identity), you have an ASD (atrial septal defect), which can only be corrected through surgical closure. It is usually asymptomatic, but once symptoms appear, surgery may no longer be an option. You may consult another cardiac surgeon for a second opinion, but ultimately, surgery is recommended.

Do not worry, you will be fine. Also, take care of your elevated triglyceride levels.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I am regularly doing yoga and light exercises. Should I continue with that? How many days after the surgery can I start working normally?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can continue doing yoga and light exercises. Within a month, you can start working.

Regards.

Thank you for contacting icliniq.
