Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 31-year-old male with a bodyweight of 227 pounds. As my cholesterol is high, I am taking Ecosprin Gold 10 mg. Shall I continue with this one or stop it?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Please share your cholesterol report. Even if cholesterol is high, there is no need for Ecosprin Gold 10 mg (Aspirin). Instead, statin may be needed depending upon your lipid profile. Do you have diabetes or hypertension (high blood pressure)?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Recent tests that I took confirmed that I have diabetes and hypertension, and my BP is 150/90 mmHg. I have attached the same reports along with my cholesterol readings. Can you kindly check my reports and help me with this?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Your test reports (attachment removed to protect patient identity) show that you are diabetic and your triglyceride levels are slightly raised. According to the latest American Heart Association guidelines, all diabetic patients should take cholesterol-lowering medicine Statin. The following measures should be adopted such as weight reduction, daily exercise, DASH (Dietary approaches to stop hypertension) or Mediterranean diet, take daily Tablet Rosuvastatin 10 mg at evening time, stop taking Aspirin, control blood sugar levels and have HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin) levels done to see sugar control over the last three months.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Is it necessary to take any gastric tablet along with Statin? Also, can you tell me about the HbA1c test?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

There is no need for any gastric tablet with Statin. Just to be on the safer side, have a liver function test done before starting Statin because cholesterol-lowering tablets may sometimes cause deranged liver function. Another rare side effect being muscular pain, especially in the thighs and shoulders. HbA1c is a blood test that tells the three-month average blood sugar level. If it is less than 7% in diabetic patients, it means sugar is under good control.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
