Patient's Query
Hi,
My mother is an asthmatic patient. She has been suffering from this disease since 30 years. Her level of asthma is not like others. She is comfortable to breath in normal conditions easily. But when the weather changes or tends to be at peak, she falls off due to it.
What I mean is, she started to feel choking during very cold winters or high summer. She gets some sound while breathing that time. Due to this condition she cannot focus on things, she just stays in bed. Currently the medicines which she is taking are Deriphyllin and inhaler.
Is there any possible cure for asthma? Or is there at least some means to lower it down, so that she can actually live the life she want?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Your mother is suffering from bronchial asthma and it is not well controlled at present. You have not specified which inhaler she takes regularly. Basically there are two types of inhalers. One is reliever for emergency use and the other one is controller which must be taken twice daily even if you feel better.
You start her on Foracort inhaler 400 (Budesonide/Formoterol) two puffs twice daily followed by gargling and Duolin Inhaler (Ipratropium Bromide/Levosalbutamol) for quick relief in emergency. Also do spirometry test, PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) to confirm asthma.
Other medical diseases like hypertension and diabetes if she has any must be well controlled. Inhaler must be always taken with Zerostat - VT spacer followed by gargling with plain cold water.
Hope this answers your query.
