Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I’ve had asthma for the past four years and also have high blood pressure. About two months ago, I experienced shortness of breath even after using my inhaler. I was later diagnosed with GERD (gastrointestinal reflux disease) and acid reflux and was prescribed a 15-day course of medication, which helped.
Since then, I’ve been feeling better, but I still get heartburn whenever I eat greasy or oily foods. I was advised to take Ancool SF tonic whenever these symptoms come up.
Is it safe to take this tonic daily?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Ancool SF contains sucralfate, which helps heal ulcers by forming a protective coating over them. If you’re prescribed sucralfate, it’s typically recommended to take it three times a day for 1 to 2 weeks consistently, rather than using it occasionally.
For immediate relief of heartburn, antacids can be taken as needed. Based on your endoscopy report (attachment not shown for privacy), there were signs of a fungal infection, which I believe was treated with antifungal medication.
In addition to medication, lifestyle changes play a key role in managing GERD and heartburn. This includes making dietary adjustments, managing weight, and engaging in regular physical activity.
I hope this has helped you.
Please do not hesitate to contact me again if you have any further questions.
Thank you.
