Hello doctor,
I was recently diagnosed with ADD. My psychiatrist prescribed me Concerta 18 mg for a week, then 36 mg for another week, and 54 mg for 16 days. I started to take the pills three days ago but, I am tired, have a lack of motivation and no concentration all day long. I feel no benefits. Today I took 18 mg at 10 AM, then another 18 mg pill at 14 PM and one 36 mg pill at 15 PM. But, it still did not work. I have had a nap at 16 PM, and I slept for about two hours. It did not solve the problem. Please help me. Is it normal to feel like this for the first time of taking ADD medication?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
As your psychiatrist diagnosed you as suffering from the ADD (attention deficit disorder), he started you on Concerta (Methylphenidate). But, it seems like you did not take the medication as prescribed. It is a well-known fact that these medications take some time to show their beneficial effects. Also, the complaints like apathy, fatigue, and sleepiness are not in keeping with the diagnosis of ADD. So, in my opinion, you have to reconsider your diagnosis. I recommend you fill an online test for ADD and depression and send me the results or arrange for a chat or video consultation. Meanwhile, take the medication as advised. If lethargy is severe, you can try Armodafinil 50 mg after consulting your psychiatrist. Also, send me the details of your problem as well as your height, weight, and BMI (body mass index). I hope this helps. Thank you.
