How to find the cause of hunger despite eating big meals?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 23-year-old male. My height is 5'6", and my weight is 163 pounds. I have a big belly, with the rest of my body being a little leaner. I have continuous hunger even after I have had food. After a meal with five roti and a cup of rice, I will feel hungry within an hour or two. I have zero activity. I sit in front of the computer for nearly seven to eight hours every day. Are there any tests that I could take to know if anything is wrong? I have no sugar and BP. Thank you for the advice in advance.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. It appears that you are primarily dealing with abdominal obesity, which often results from a sedentary lifestyle. The excessive hunger you experience can be attributed to habitual eating patterns rather than an underlying medical condition. To address these concerns, I recommend initiating an exercise regimen, such as joining a gym or incorporating jogging into your routine. Additionally, here are some suggestions for weight loss and cholesterol management:

1. Reduce your weight naturally by diet modification and exercises.

2. Limit the consumption of fatty foods in your diet.

3. Consume moderate amounts of potatoes, rice, oil, ghee, sweets, and carbonated beverages.

4. Avoid alcohol and smoking if you currently engage in these habits.

If you find it challenging to lose weight despite these measures, it may be worthwhile to discuss with your doctor the possibility of using a medication called Orlistat. This medication reduces fat absorption and can aid in weight loss when used in conjunction with dietary plans and exercise. Regards,
