Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a black paste-like discharge during my recent period and was there for only three days. While sexually active this week, my husband noticed a thick, stringy, egg-white-looking discharge. Also, my periods are irregular, and was practicing the pull-out method for a while now. Is this black period flow normal? Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I would like more details about your age, weight, menstrual cycle, medical history, and pelvic inflammatory diseases. The dark blood coming may be because of the accumulated blood in the uterus. You might be having hormonal imbalance or perimenopausal as you have irregular periods. For the irregular cycles, I suggest blood investigation on the second day of the menstrual cycle of serum testosterone, serum insulin, FSH (follicular stimulating hormone), progesterone, and thyroid function test. Also, I would suggest high and low vaginal swabs to exclude Pelvic inflammatory disease. As far as vaginal discharge, there could be due to various reasons. But stringy discharge can be a sign of pelvic inflammatory infection that vaginal high and low Swabs can rule out. If you have itching or irritation, I would suggest the following:

  1. Tablet Doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for seven days.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
