Should I brush if my gums bleed after braces removal?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I just got my braces removed today and have been getting some heavy bleeding when brushing my teeth. Should I continue to brush my teeth while it bleeds or just stop?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern regarding dental health. Bleeding gums after the removal of braces is a very common problem.

So first of all, consult your dentist for scaling to remove local inflammatory factors. Till the time do gargles with mouthwash after every meal to maintain oral hygiene and avoid bleeding by not brushing.

I hope this helps you.

Take care.
