Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I got my nose injured around 9 years back while playing basketball. I got a deviated septum and sinus problem from that time. I got operated for both around 3.5 years back and I started feeling almost normal and cured. Recently 2 days back I had a moderate blow at the outer bone of the nose. Simultaneously I am also suffering from cold, nasal blockage, and sore throat. Now, this can be coincident as well. I wanted to know, can this be related to blow at the nose?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Post-trauma deviation in the nose is expected, but not always does this lead to a sinus infection and recurrent sinusitis. You already had previous surgery for deviation. So it also depends on your previous surgery that was done.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for replying. I had a septoplasty along with sinus surgery. At that time I got my PNS CT scan done. Do we need to repeat any radiology test to rule out any problem? Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Now as you got trauma, do not get any CT scan. Since you already got septoplasty, you must not get any sinus problem this time, unless your trauma is very major this time. So, I advise you to wait for a minimum of two weeks. If you get any symptoms after two weeks, then you need nasal endoscopy.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Actually, I am feeling a bit of heaviness and very slight internal irritation and pain on the left side of my nose. If at all I need to get a radiology test done such as CT scan or x-ray for my mental satisfaction to rule out any nasal fracture, or any injury to my nasal septum and sinuses. Which tests will you recommend me? Actually, the thing is I am planning to consult my doctor who performed the surgery tomorrow and want to be ready with all the reports beforehand that might be required. Further also kindly suggest should I avoid wearing spectacles to avoid further damage.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I would prefer you to do endoscopy first and if required radiology. But if you want to get radiology beforehand, then ideally NCCT (non-contrast computed tomography) of the nose or PNS (paranasal sinuses) or orbit is what we advise. In places where NCCT is not possible, we first advise x-ray PNS (water's view) and x-ray nose lateral view.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
