I feel pain and see blood after urination. What is wrong?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

When I urinate, I feel pain at the end, and when I wipe, I notice some blood after my bladder is emptied.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You have to rule out an acute urinary tract infection first by urine routine microscopic examination, and if it shows pus cells and bacteria, then urine culture should be done. If a urinary infection is confirmed, then an antibiotic should be prescribed for seven to 10 days.

Cystitis, kidney infection, urethritis, etc., are causes for urinary tract infection.

USG pelvis scan done if needed for further workup.

I suggest the following -

  1. Maintain hydration with lots of water.
  2. Fruit juice should be taken more often.
  3. Avoid excess spicy foods.
  4. Cranberry juice extract tablet is useful.

Take care.
