How long will my bleeding last after taking the I-pill?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had my first intercourse 10 days back, and after that, I took an I-pill within 24 hours. And now it has been two weeks, and I am still having some brown spots.

  1. Is it due to the I-pill?
  2. How many days does it bleed?
  3. Is it normal, or should I visit a doctor? Or should I wait for my next cycle?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The brownish spotting is due to withdrawal bleed following I-pill intake, but the bleeding usually lasts only 4 to 5 days. If the bleeding is continuing, it would be best to rule out any chances of pregnancy with a serum beta hCG test first, and if negative, then you can opt for an anti-fibrinolytic to control the bleeding.

Thank you.
