Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My husband was stabbed from armpit to collarbone 48 hours ago. It is very deep and requires surgery to clean and close the wound. He was discharged from the hospital 18 hours ago. He has started to get a huge bruise down his side and arm that is growing in size and getting dark in color. The pain, tenderness, and tightness are worsening. Now he is experiencing chest pain. He already has liver disease, renal failure, and a list of other health issues. What should we do?
Thanks.

Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Is there any discharge or leakage from the sutures?
Regards.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thanks for the reply.
We do not know why he is getting huge bruise that is growing. It is more painful and tender. He is also feeling shortness of breath and chest pain. I have attached a picture of the bruising. There was none for the first 24 to 36 hours. It just started about 12 to 18 hours ago. He has a thin blood discharge from the sutures.
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Thank you for the pictures (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity). This is a condition known as post-surgical hematoma or seroma. It means that there might be some vessels leaking inside the skin or internally. For this, the surgeon will assess once again and put drainage if needed. So that blood can easily pass.
Thanks.
