Which end-stage colon cancer treatment options suit my aunt?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My aunt has had colon cancer for the past three years. She has a tumor of 3.15 inches. As all other organs are not compromised, she stopped chemotherapy one year ago. Now, she has peritoneal pseudomyxoma and ascites.

In the hospital, the doctors say that the liquid in her abdominal cavity cannot be drained with normal methods because of its density. They sent her home to die slowly without any treatment. What can be done to get that thing out of her? I have attached her clinical history for your reference.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

In the case of concerns regarding the spread of the tumor, a trial of Albumin and Furosemide, which are diuretics, can be administered intravenously in a carefully monitored setting.

Meanwhile, oral diuretics can also be considered, such as Furosemide and Spironolactone, provided that the blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels are within a reasonable range. It is important to consult with her specialist doctor, discuss the treatment options, and proceed with their consent.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
