Is white skin on penis a sign of infection or dryness?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

The outer skin of my penis is turning white and gradually spreading. I consulted a doctor, who told me that the skin might be dead or infected. There is no pain or any discharge.

Kindly suggest what I should do.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Can you please upload a few pictures, if possible, for diagnosis and to recommend appropriate treatment? Do you have a history of diabetes mellitus?

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have no diabetes. I have attached the photos.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed the photos (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity). Get your blood sugar levels tested both before fasting and after lunch, if possible. It could be candidal balanitis. I suggest taking Fluconazole 150 mg once weekly for three weeks and applying DK (Miconazole) gel twice daily. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Is it very dangerous? What is the cause and its remedy? Will the medicine be effective, or are there any side effects?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is most likely a fungal infection, and the prescribed treatment is appropriate. However, to confirm the diagnosis, you should visit a dermatologist near you, as some details may be missed in an online consultation.

Thank you.
