Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

It started with burning when I pee, but it felt different than a normal UTI. Some small bumps seen on the labia appeared like ingrown hairs but itched and hurt when touched. I tested negative for herpes, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomoniasis. Severe back and pelvic pain began, with swollen lymph nodes in my groin. I have been prescribed antibiotics for possible yeast infection. Pelvic pain dissipated, now there is a raw spot of skin just inside my vagina. It is red and hard to the touch. It is not fluid-filled. Burns upon contact with urine. About the size of a quarter. Very itchy and painful. Copious discharge and a foul odor. It was a sudden onset; a partner used a vibrator shortly before this began. It was clean; he also tested negative for any STDs. I have an occasionally elevated body temperature, usually 99, and never above 100. I took 500 mg Levaquin for one week with no change; also took oral Flagyl for possible yeast infection, with no change. I am currently taking Effexor, Propranolol, and Depo-Provera. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the symptoms you mentioned and also the treatment you have taken. The lesion you said is an STD, possibly chancroid. It would help if you took the recommended antibiotics for chancroid such as tablet Azithromycin 1000 mg single dose or Erythromycin 500 mg three times a day for a week or injection Ceftriaxone 250 mg stay dose [as per CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommendations]. Please consult your doctor before starting the antibiotics as you are on other medications, which may interact with any of these drugs. Your doctor will help you choose the right antibiotic for you.

There could have been a possible mixed genital infection, which partly got cured due to the antibiotics. The antibiotics Flagyl (Metronidazole) is for anaerobic bacterial infections and not for yeast Infection. Yeast infection needs Fluconazole. Ask your doctor for this if you have been suspected of having yeast infection too. The chancroid lesions may take one to two weeks to heal. Till that time, do symptomatic treatment of the lesions by applying some antibiotics cream over the ulcers, maintaining genital hygiene, and avoiding sexual intercourse till the infections are completely cured. I hope that this information was helpful. Please feel free to revert anytime for any further queries. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Take care.
