Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I did liposuction a few years ago which left me with scars. I did a mistake and used TCA 50% on them. It ruined them and left me with a dark scar. I want to use chemical peel but I do not know which one to use and which brand is good other than that? Right now, I cannot afford laser treatment. Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Chemical peeling is done in mild superficial scarring. Pitted scars and deep scars with severe atrophy will not respond to peeling. A chemical agent like glycolic acid is used to cause a chemical burn and a superficial one is enough to cause regeneration, resurfacing, and remodeling of collagen and elastin fibers. Glycolic acid peel 5 to 15 percent is a good option in case of superficial scarring. What type of scars do you have? Regards.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I will send you pictures and tell me what type of scars are they? Will glycolic acid work for me or not? Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

These are hyperpigmented scars (attachment removed to protect patient identity). The glycolic acid peel will work. Use Ahaglow face wash (it has glycolic acid content in it) twice daily for a month. Take tablet Limcee 500 mg (vitamin C supplement) once a day after breakfast for 30 days. Apply Kojic cream at night on the dark spots for four weeks. Use Kojic soap for a bath for two months. Avoid scratching and rubbing of lesions. Eat berries, oranges, papaya, avocado, carrots, spinach, and muskmelon. Drink 7 to 8 glasses of water daily. Use Photostable sunscreen daily at 9 am, 12 pm, and 3 pm for 2 months. Avoid direct sunlight. Regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
