Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My partner has an oral cold sore. In our six months of dating, this is the first one she has got. We have been sexually active for these six months, but I never had a cold sore. I understand transmission is lower when there is not an active outbreak, but I want to better understand the asymptomatic transmission.
Is it possible for me to have contracted the virus over the past six months and be asymptomatic? And if so, are people who are asymptomatic carriers remain asymptomatic in perpetuity, or can I just one day have an outbreak despite never having an initial one upon contracting the virus?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Generally, infections causing sore throat and cold are acquired over a short period of time. Also, most of the immunocompetent persons and young persons like you shed off the virus in five to seven days. Asymptomatic carrier cases are very low. Even if you are an asymptomatic carrier, there is no risk for you. As of now, try to avoid oral contact with your partner for the next seven days and it is better to use a mask.
Do not worry. Your partner will be fine in seven days and you will be fine too, if you take adequate precautions. Nothing to be stressed about.
Hope this helps you.
Kindly revert back in case of further queries.
Thank you.
