Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My 61-day-old baby was diagnosed with anorectal malformation during birth and a colostomy was done. He is 11.02 Ibs now and I want to know when the second surgery can be done.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Usually, a second surgery for a high anorectal malformation is performed once the baby is well stabilized and growing well, approximately three to four months after the first surgery. It also depends on the site of the problem as well as on the treating surgeon. Some surgeons do it once the baby attains approximately 22.05 Ibs of weight if they do it in 2 stage plan. Some surgeons might do it in 3 stage plan.
As your baby is otherwise growing well, I expect they may be planning to do it soon but the final timing depends on the pediatric surgeon. I suggest just sticking to the advice of your surgeon. You are taking care of your baby so well, that is why he is growing well. The credit goes to you also along with your surgeon. I trust everything will be fine soon and your baby will be passing motion normally.
Hope this helps.
Thanks and take care.
