Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I got my blood checked.n differential WBC (white blood cells) count I have an eosinophil level of 9.8 cells/mcL, and in complete blood count, the white blood cells are of an absolute count, and the eosinophils are 1 cell/mcL. I am really worried about this, my basophil level is zero.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.I had undergone your attached reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). First, let me acknowledge that basophils count in differential WBC (white blood cells) count can be zero because it is usually not seen in peripheral smear examinations routinely. So, do not worry about that. Your eosinophil count is certainly high.

The following are a few causes for that :

  1. Allergic inflammation (the most common cause) includes rhinitis, sinusitis, etc.

  2. Skin disorders like eczema.

  3. Asthma.

  4. Parasitic intestinal infection.

According to your complaint and clinical correlation, an investigation plan can be decided. Hence provide your clinical history regarding your complaint. If you are having allergic congestion then take a combination syrup of Fexofenadine and Montelukast (StayHappi) for eight to ten days. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent. Repeat urine examination after four to five days because urine shows RBC (red blood cells) in elevated numbers which should not be there. If persistently elevated then an ultrasound scan and further investigations can be planned for that.

Hope your concern is resolved. Write back to icliniq.com for further queries.

Take care,

Regards.
