Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have nausea, gas, constipation for the past four months. I think that it can be due to food poisoning or stomach virus. I have done a CT, MRI brain, gastric emptying study, colonoscopy, and endoscopy. All the results were normal. All the blood tests were normal. I had an abnormal level of fecal calprotectin and it was 280 mcg/g. Now, it has gone down to 9 mcg/g. Could I have a problem with the functions of the gall bladder? I have lost ten kilograms and I am 19 years old. My appendix has been removed and I am taking Ondansetron for nausea and it does not work.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It does not seem to be due to functional gall bladder problem. The main symptom seen in functional gall bladder problem is the presence of pain in the right upper abdomen and you do not have it. You can have functional nausea syndrome and it is centrally mediated. Please mention whether you have a smoking habit or any other addiction. Some degree of nausea can occur when you have bad constipation. It means that when you are unable to pass a single stool for three days or even less than that.

Please mention whether you had constipation along with nausea at the same time. The tests you have done can rule out any serious issue present in the abdomen and brain either infections or tumors and the common cause for weight loss. So, there is a functional problem in the stomach or brain. You have already taken a symptomatic treatment for it that is Ondansetron. The next approach is to start you with an antidepressant medication at a low dose. Please mention the condition of constipation now and any sleep disturbance, any addiction habit, any history of missing heartbeats, and low blood pressure. Antidepressant can cause some side effects and it needs to be taken care earlier.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
