Will using contact lenses of lesser power affect vision?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have attached my glasses prescription with this. However, I have been using contact lenses with less power than my prescription glasses. Can you suggest the contact lens I can use with a power of -2 D spherical and -0.75 D cylindrical in both eyes? Kindly suggest. Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. You have astigmatism of -0.75D cylindrical in both eyes. The tear film underneath the contact lenses usually takes care of neutralizing astigmatism. Also, contact lenses are mainly prescribed with less than the glass's power. You can use -2.0 DS contact lenses for both eyes. However, I suggest you use monthly or daily disposable lenses if you are not an everyday user. Thank you.
