Are my painful neck lymph nodes a serious concern?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My lymph node on the right side of my neck is swollen. I also have some swelling on both sides of the back of my neck. It is hurting badly. I have been on antibiotics for months, and it has been the same. It is very hard to see in a picture, but you can see and feel it in person. It feels like a cyst. I could not eat and lose weight.

What can I do?

My height is 5'9", and I weigh 140 lbs. I am currently on Gabapentin for my seizure.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

First, you have to get an appointment with a dentist and find out if any tooth is involved, which may be causing an abscess, inflammation of the nodes, and swelling in the neck. The teeth have to be extracted or get root canal treatment for it.

If the dentist says that there is no tooth involvement, then next you have to go to the Emergency Center and see a physician to find out the reason for these inflamed nodes. It may even be a throat infection, but we need to find out precisely which area is involved. Who prescribed antibiotics to you and did he give you any diagnosis? It can also be enlarged thyroid glands. So, you have to show it to a physician if the dentist rules out the infection inside the mouth.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
