Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

For years my legs have never looked good due to the skin. My legs are covered in spots but not like facial ones. They are more like red lumps. I have tried different razors and various creams, but nothing is working. Exfoliating also has no effect. Will this ever go away, or have I been cursed with vile legs my whole life? Is there anything you can recommend to get rid of these spots?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I have examined your pic (attachment removed to protect patient's identity), and with your descriptions and given pic, it seems you have ingrown hairs.

• The most common cause of ingrown hairs is shaving, waxing, and tweezing unwanted facial and body hair.

• By removing hair and leaving the sharp tip of the hair so short and close to the skin surface, it is more prone to grow sideways or curl back into the hair follicle and get stuck under the skin surface, leading to irritation and inflammation of the overlying skin.

• Treatment for ingrown hairs can vary, and sometimes the hair will heal spontaneously without any specific treatment.

• I suggest you use topical steroid cream like 0.1 % Mometasone once daily. Application for one to two weeks will decrease inflammation.

• You can also use Retino-A 0.025 % (Tretinoin) for local application during the night for the same duration to dislodge keratin, so ingrown hairs come out. But, again, consult your specific doctor, discuss with them, and take medicine with consent.

• Review after two weeks for further management.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
