Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Lately, I have been feeling like I am not there anymore. People are talking to me, but I am not listening, and I really find it hard to focus on anything. I am 18 years old, and I have difficulties in relationships, so I tend to daydream more and live more in my dreams than when I am awake. I got too attached to this fantasy world I had been creating for years, and it just stopped me from experiencing things, normal things that a teenage girl is supposed to experience. So my question is: How do I get over it?

Thanking you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You have explained it beautifully and clearly. Derealization and depersonalizations are part of our mind. Sometimes it happens normally. But if it stays for long duration we need to look for an actual cause. I will suggest you to go for some investigations like thyroid, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) brain, EEG (electroencephalogram) after consultation with a psychiatrist.

Some medications like SSRI(Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) groups will help you to get early recovery. Conflict of virtual dream world with the reality basically shows glimpse of bad past experiences, underlying depression and some anxiety with specific phobias.

It is best to visit a nearby psychiatrist to rule out actual cause.

Regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
