Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My wife has cervical disk or spinal issues. It could be probably the long hours of work on the computer. She feels tired and has pain in the back of her body. Her muscles get weak and she has abnormal sensations in both hands and legs. She had severe neck pain. She did an X-ray and MRI scan as advised by a spinal orthopedic surgeon which showed Cervical C3 & C4 have been problematic. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to Icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Avoid lifting weights. Avoid arching your back, bend your knees to pick something from the floor. Avoid sitting for long hours. Avoid the use of two-wheelers. Improve your posture while sitting- Try to sit with your back straight. Try to get up from your chair every 20 minutes and take a quick walk. Always use a chair with good back support. Do not try to get up suddenly after sleeping. instead, turn to the side and get up. I suggest complete bed rest if the pain is severe. Do hot fermentation (use of heat to relax the muscles, usually by hot water bags) over the affected area, at least twice a day. I suggest you to:

1. Apply Oxalgin gel (Diclofenac sodium 10 mg, Menthol 50 mg, and Methyl salicylate 150 mg) twice daily.

2. Tablet Pregabalin 75 mg once daily in the night before food every day.

3. Tablet Etoricoxib 60 mg twice daily after food.

4. Tablet Rabeprazole 20 mg twice daily for ten days before food.

5. Tablet Shelcal (Vitamin D3 250 IU and Calcium 500 mg) once daily before food.

6. Tablet Vitamin D (60K) once daily for ten days, then once a month for eleven months.

Consult your doctor and take these medications. Do not take them if you asthmatic patient.

I suggest you to do physiotherapy. Start training with a physiotherapist for core strengthening exercises, neck rotations, shoulder shrugs, and shoulder rotations. Jogging, running and weight lifting may aggravate the back problems.

I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.

Investigations to be done

No investigations are required at present.

Probable diagnosis

The probable diagnosis is a C3-4 degeneration with bilateral UL radiculitis

Preventive measures

Preventive measures are to be followed as given above.

Regarding follow up

If symptoms do not reduce in 10 days, I suggest meeting a neurophysician.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
