Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My girlfriend's period was delayed. The bleeding was there for two days. Then it stopped again after three days with brown spotting. Why does it happen like this? We did not have sexual intercourse. We hugged each other with our clothes on. No sexual intercourse. When I was hugged, I was having pre-ejaculate on my pants. We both were completely dressed. She is not taking any tablets. Is there any chance of pregnancy? Why are periods changing? Is it okay that blood comes for two days then stops and again comes after two days?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I can understand your concern. Brown discharge can be due to vaginal infection (bacterial or fungal). If you had unprotected sex or an improper-treated urinary tract infection. You can use tab Doxy (Doxycycline) 100 mg twice a day after food for five days to prevent bacterial infection. It can also be due to an ovarian cyst. I need to do an ultrasound pelvis to diagnose it. It can also be due to an abdomen infection - which can be ruled out by ultrasound pelvis or due to the use of contraception. Since she had her periods with no chance of pregnancy. I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your detailed explanation. With three days of periods can we rule out the chance of pregnancy? We did not have sexual intercourse. We hugged each other in our clothes. When I was hugged, I was having pre-ejaculate on my pants. I am not sure whether it touched her or not. We both were completely dressed. When her periods came late we got really worried. When we search the internet a lot of other things are given.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

My girlfriend and I hugged each other last month. Later, I found that I had a pre-ejaculate spot on my pants. We did not have sexual intercourse, no penetration, just hugged each other. We did not remove clothes. I am not sure whether that wet spot of pre-ejaculate touched her or not. Later, her period did not come on the expected date, and I got really worried. However, her period came after four days with blood, which then stopped, and it started again after a week she experienced a yellow discharge. There were a total of three days of bleeding, but it was not continuous. She was under a lot of stress and tension during that month due to some family issues.

Doctor, I have anxiety regarding the possibility of her getting pregnant from hugging with a wet spot of pre-ejaculate on my pants. Is it normal for her periods to be three days long for the past two months? Previously, she used to have periods lasting four to five days.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. There is no need to worry; semen cannot travel through layers of clothing and enter the vagina. There is no chance of pregnancy. The delay in her period could be due to stress rather than pregnancy.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

This hugging happened a month ago, and she had a period lasting three days. Normally, she used to have periods lasting four to five days. Does this three-day period rule out any chance of pregnancy?

Answered by Dr. Raveendran S R

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

There is no chance of pregnancy. Regarding your situation, there are several possibilities to consider:

  1. It could be due to an infection – if there is white discharge, you can use tablet Doxycycline 100 mg twice a day for five days.

  2. Hormonal issues might be a factor – consider planning for TFT (thyroid function test).

  3. PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) could be a potential cause – consider planning for an abdominal ultrasound.

  4. Anemia might be a contributing factor – check your hemoglobin levels.

  5. Vitamin deficiency could also be a reason – consider checking for folic acid, vitamin B, and Vitamin D levels.

  6. Dehydration is a possibility – make sure you are drinking adequate water.

For the time being, you can take Tablet Ferrous fumarate once at night and plan for further investigations. This will help us create a management plan.

Thank you.

Regards.
