Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was hospitalized and in ICU for ten days for acute pancreatitis. Ever since my period has been irregular. My pregnancy test also came negative. Having medications prescribed by a gastroenterologist Antoxid P. I got a PRP done on the scalp and was prescribed Keraboost. Why is my period late? Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern. Sometimes periods might get delayed by one or two weeks because of some stress or recent illness. But still, you should rule out PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and thyroid abnormalities by doing a USG (ultrasound)pelvis scan, thyroid profile, and CBC (complete blood count). I hope I have cleared all your doubts.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply. I do not have any thyroid abnormalities as I have seen a dermatologist for my hair fall and tests revealed I do not have any thyroid disorders. The tension of not having a period is making me anxious. Is it normal to have a delay in periods even after three months of hospitalization and medication (still going). I am having cramps and when I check it is a white cloudy grainy discharge, feels like the period is coming but it does not. I had this kind of situation every once in a year where my period is 10-15 days and the period cycle changes drastically. But since the hospitalization, it has been continuous.

Hello,

Glad to have you back!

Usually, this does happen after hospitalization, you may get such irregularities up to six months. You must have done a USG scan also when you were diagnosed with pancreatitis, so there would be a mention of polycystic ovarian syndrome if it was present. For now, continue your medications, start regular exercise (not vigorous), do daily yoga asana or pranayama, have more green leafy vegetables and fruits in your diet, and have plenty of water at least one gallon per day. I would like to know, is that discharge smelly? In such cases of infection, the discharge could occur, and to avoid such infections, keep that area clean and dry, change undergarments two times a day, and wash your genital with soft intimate cleansers. When did you have a pregnancy test? Kindly answer to help you further.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

No, the discharge is not smelly. I had the pregnancy test recently almost one week after my probable period date.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I suggest you wait for a week more. Even then if your period do not come then again and get a urine pregnancy test done, if the test comes negative then take the tablet Deviry (Medroxyprogesterone)10 mg twice daily for three days, after stopping this tablet period will come within two to seven days. I hope I have cleared all your doubts.

Thank you.
