Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had unprotected sex with no ejaculation with my partner one month back. After that, my partner had a delayed period, and we took a urine pregnancy test, which was negative. But her period did not come on the second day, and she had cramps and a mild vaginal discharge. We checked the urine pregnancy test multiple times, and it was negative. Now she is having cramps with no vaginal discharge. What could be the reason?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Delay in periods is a common thing among females. A delay of up to one week (7 to 10 days) is considered normal if it happens once or twice in a year and if there is no underlying disease. Causes of delayed menstruation include pregnancy, stress, sudden weight loss, being overweight, doing too much exercise, contraceptive pills, and endometriosis. I suggest waiting for a few more days. If she does not get her periods in more than ten days or two weeks, then go for a urine pregnancy test. If it comes negative, then visit a gynecologist for a detailed evaluation.

Thank you.
