Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have not had my monthly period for two months now but I am pretty sure I am not pregnant. No intercourse was done for the past few months. Then I have been feeling some lower abdominal pain that just shoots up for a quick time but does not last long. I also experienced spotting, maybe that was last week, it was a light red color or pinkish.
I am also turning 18 years old soon. I know it is normal for me to have irregular periods because my usual cycle is irregular but this one just makes me worried a bit. I also feel bloated all the time.
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
If you have irregular cycles, it is better to check for a reason and have treatment for that.
1. Confirm that you have no pregnancy (otherwise check the blood pregnancy test beta hCG [human chorionic gonadotrophin] to confirm).
2. Have you checked for abnormal hair growth and sudden weight gain?
3. Take the tablet Primolut N (Nor-ethisterone) 10 mg 12 hourly for seven days and then wait for ten days to have a withdrawal bleed.
4. On day two of bleeding, I suggest you to take blood tests (serum testosterone, serum progesterone, serum insulin, serum prolactin, FSH [follicle stimulating hormone] and LH [luteinizing hormone] ratio, thyroid function test).
5. I also suggest taking one transvaginal scan outside menstrual days.
6. Collect all laboratory reports and you can discuss them here or local gynecologist.
7. Exercise daily with yoga and maintain a normal BMI (body mass index).
8. Eat a healthy diet.
9. If you want to regulate cycles by taking Cocp (combined oral contraceptive pill) you can take it for two to three months.
10. You are a teenager and your body is still in a developing state. In some individuals years after puberty, anovulatory cycles can be regular or irregular and then gradually ovulatory cycles.
11. It is better to check with investigations.
I hope things would be better.
Best of luck.
