Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 41.5 years old female. I always get periods on time. My cycle is of 24 to 25 days. But this time it is late by five days. I have not got my periods yet. I have checked pregnancy test today but it shown negative. What could be the reason for delayed periods? My tummy remains bloated like a balloon. Please suggest. My last date was on 23rd and today it has been 29 days.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your history and understand your concern. I will try my best to help you. Do a repeat pregnancy test with urine pregnancy kit, if its negative, wait for period for at least seven to 10 days. If period does not come repeat it again after one week. As your pregnancy test is negative and this is happening for the first time, it is not a serious issue. Just wait and watch. The period will come naturally in another one or two weeks. You should take medicine to bring period only if it is not possible for you to wait. Otherwise, it should be avoided. I also want to know if you have taken any hormonal pill in the recent past or if you are a patient of thyroid disorder.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for reply.

I took Primolut N last month to delay periods for three to four days, but I got my periods as soon as I stopped the medicine. Here is attached my periods' history of last three months.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

So, due to Primolut N, period delay may happen. Nothing to worry. Just wait. Another important thing, considering your age, you may need further evaluation if persistent irregular period occurs. So, watch your period and if anything abnormal consult again.

Take care.
