One of my UPTs showed faint positive, while others showed negative. How to confirm?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I was on the Depo shot for a year. My last shot was before six months and I never went back for the next shot, which is supposed to be around three months back. I had some bleeding before two months and I thought it was a period. Last month, I did not have anything. I had a lot of unprotected sex and now I am experiencing pregnancy symptoms like nausea, tender breasts, lower back pain, cramps and fatigue. Also, I had to urinate more than usual. And, I was wondering if this is just my body getting back to normal after coming off Depo or if I am pregnant. I took a UPT and I saw a faint positive, but it could have been an evaporation line. Later, I had three UPTs and all have been negative.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The test is negative and you are not pregnant. Normally, you have to see this test within 5 minutes. When you see after a long time you can see a faint positive. Other three tests are if negative, then pregnancy is not there. But, if want a confirmation, then do a sonography. And, secondly try some other contraceptive for three to four months and then try for pregnancy if you were on Depo shots. Yes, these symptoms may be due to withdrawal from Depo injection. So, do not worry.
