Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 29-year-old male. I have had diarrhea 5-10 times a day, stomach cramps, mild fever for the past three days. The stool is runny and the color is pinkish-red.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
It is not uncommon to have diarrhea in this season. Please let me know the diet you have taken in the last one week. Please add a lot of yogurt in your diet, about one pack with breakfast, lunch, evening snack, and dinner. Do not eat butter. Do not use too much oil for preparing food. Do not eat raw, canned, uncooked food either. Take baked (without butter or oil) and boiled foods without cream or cheese or butter preferred food preparations.
In diarrheas, fluid loss more than infection is responsible for complications. Hence we should first handle that first. Drink a lot of fluids (total of four to six liters a day), electrolytes, and water. No fruit juices.
Home made electrolyte solution comprising of water mixed with salt and glucose powder. One glass 200 ml with half teaspoonful table salt and two teaspoonful D-glucose powder (if not available, add sugar) two litres per day.
A probiotic could help tackle the resettle the gut microflora. For this, you could take any probiotic available at nearby superstore e.g., Walgreens with tablets/capsules containing Saccharomyces Boulardi one tablet twice daily for about five days.
Antidiarrheal preparations, Imodium advanced multisymptom relief caplets (Loperamide 2 mg plus Simethicone) two caplets at once followed by one caplet after loose stool, total a maximum of six caplets in a day. Stop as soon as your loose motions stop. Do not take incase you notice blood in the stool.
Tablet Zinc 50 mg one tablet twice daily for seven days, Vitamin C 500 mg one soft gel twice daily for seven days. This should improve your condition. If it does not improve with these measures, please revert immediately. Please look out for fever, sore throat, breathlessness, etc.
Revert after three days.
