Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My mother is 83-years-old, and her blood pressure is 145/53 mmHg, with a pulse rate of 63 beats/min. She feels dizzy and refuses to go to the hospital. What home cure or diet would you suggest?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern about your dizziness. Dizziness at this age can be caused by a variety of factors including high blood pressure and low blood pressure upon standing from a seated posture. This might be caused by certain drugs she is taking. It can be caused by ear disorders such as positional vertigo, nerve abnormalities in the inner ear, or even brain lesions. Without evaluating her, it is difficult to determine the cause of her situation. If she becomes dizzy while standing suddenly, advise her to stand gently and drink plenty of water. What kind of medication does she take?

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I took her blood pressure, which is now 158/65 mmHg . She takes one tablet of Catapres around 30 minutes ago. She is now sleeping as she does not feel well. This is her second day with a high blood pressure. I believe she is also on Inderal for hypertension.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

If she feels dizzy throughout the day, her electrolytes, such as sodium, potassium, and calcium levels, should be evaluated along with her renal functions. Tablet Catapres (antihypertensive) can induce an abrupt drop in blood pressure and dizziness, as well as making her feel tired. If her blood pressure remains high, I would suggest adding a table of Nifedipine retard 20 mg every eight hours. Given her age, there are other hazards, so you should take her to a doctor and get her checked physically.

Thank you.
