Can itchy and dry eyes, irritation, along with eye pain be due to a serious condition?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 23-year-old male. I have had itchy and dry eyes for a week and have had eye pain for the past two days. My eyes are getting tired fast, and I am not able to view my laptop screen for a long time. There is constant irritation near my eye corners. I took Refresh tear drops two times for two days, did warm compresses, and felt better. I want to know whether this condition is serious and whether I should continue taking eye drops. Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I thoroughly read your query and understand your concern. Using computers and smartphones causes dry eye due to decreased blink rate. Take frequent breaks. Look at far objects in between, as eyes are strained looking at the close objects for a long time. Keep brightness to a minimum. Use Flogel HA eye drops (sodium hyaluronate 0.1 %) three times a day. Use antiglare glasses. Hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or concerns. Take care.
