How to treat acute suppurative otitis media?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had intense ear pressure for the last 1.5 months. It has affected my hearing, and certain sounds or frequencies are very annoying now. It started with being sick, and after one round of antibiotics, all my other symptoms went away, but I am left with this ear pressure and hearing problems. I did a round of Prednisone, which seemed to help a lot, but I am back to having intense ear pressure after finishing that. Do I need to go to the emergency room for this? I am currently taking Suboxone.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Probably you are suffering from a eustachian tube block, acute suppurative otitis media (ASOM), or middle ear infection. Avoid cool drinks and ice creams. Use salt water gargling thrice a day for five days. Use steam inhalation thrice a day for five days. Use decongestant nasal spray like Nasivion (Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride). Use tablet Levocetirizine with Phenylephrine twice a day after food. If symptoms have not improved, please consult your ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist. They will examine and treat you accordingly. Take care.
