Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have Ehlers Danlos and dysautonomia. Six months ago, they found what they believed was an outpouching in my brain in an MRI after I had a migraine for two days. They did a follow-up five months later, (and therefore the previous MRI was last month) and found the same thing. (My report says: Previously seen 1 mm focal outpouching arising from the communicating segment on the right internal carotid artery appears grossly unchanged. Although a vessel appears to originate from the inferior aspect of this outpouching, it does not originate from the apex, and this finding cannot be definitively considered to be an infundibulum. Therefore, continued follow-up is recommended).

Although the doctor says there is nothing to worry about, I am worried and have been getting worse headaches in the past year. I have an eight-hour flight trip in a few weeks and am worried. May I have some insight on this?

I get headaches a lot. I may have mitochondrial disease, but the doctors are not sure. The headaches are the worst when I get up too quickly or do something suddenly, like sneezing, going up the stairs, or running. They occur on the right side of my head and are a burning sharp pain that pulses and only lasts a few seconds. I have developed a habit of digging my nails into my scalp when I get headaches. One time I woke up to find that my scalp was actually bleeding. I have gone through episodes where I hear a very loud noise in my head, but they happen only twice a year. Five years ago I had a mild concussion on the right side after falling down a flight of stairs.

Please help.

Thank you so much in advance!
